Brian O'Brien is an honours graduate of the School
of Architecture at Bolton St, DIT Dublin and has recently completed
a Masters in Architecture specialising in sustainability/ energy
efficiency and ecological design at the University of California
at Berkeley. Brian set up Solearth to provide a bridge between the
perceived conflicts of prioritisation for ecological quality and
design excellence.
He has provided green architecture consultation and led the design
and completion of architectural projects with a number of distinguished
firms in Ireland, Britain, France and the United States. He has
worked with green architects Sim Van der Ryn of the Ecological Design
Institute, Pliny Fisk III of the Center for Maximum Potential Building
Systems in Austin Texas, and Daniel Liebermann (of Taliesin) on
sustainable buildings, community and urban designs in Texas, Illinois,
and California, USA. Brian studied under Sim Van der Ryn while at
Berkeley.
In Ireland Brian has worked with a number of noted architecture
practices on urban design master plans, commercial and institutional
buildings and private houses. He has designed public housing and
developed sustainable design policy for Dublin Corporation's City
Architects.
He works with the Energy Research Group at the University College
of Dublin, Ireland. Brian has worked with the Center for the Built
Environment at Berkeley and has taught Sustainable Architecture
there.
