The Village
Cloughjordan Co. Tipperary
The Village is Ireland’s first purpose designed Sustainable
Community. It develops a third of the site as a built community and
sets aside the remainder as an organic farm and woodland reserve. The
community (of 500 people), is designed to knit itself into the streetscape
of the existing village and features solar planning, creation of a new
stream, extensive landscape and habitat creation innovative attitudes
to street making, traffic management and the inclusion by design of
community gardens, recycling facilities and low energy or renewable
services and infrastructure. Natural water drainage systems and wastewater
treatment by constructed wetlands complete the link with the sites underlying
ecology.

Airfield Trust
Dundrum, Dublin 14
Masterplan for the transformation of big house and estate into an educational
and ecological centre based on experience of nature. Solearth led a
team of designers engineers ecologists and cost/economic consultants
to evaluate current physical, ecological, and business operations to
develop a site specific vision for the estate. The plan would re-organise
current cultural and amenity facilities on the site, enhancing and improving
them, provide extensive areas of new habitats (tuned to the national
educational syllabus), increase the sensoriality, delight and ecological
diversity of the estate and ensure that Airfield thrives in the future
as a resource for coming generations.

A feasibility study to create a centre of excellence in the practise
of sustainable living. The centre is to include an existing mature organic
garden and seeks to establish teaching spaces, organic cooking facilities
with cafe and demonstrate sustainable technologies.
